Why customers love DTF

  • No need to simplify your colourful artwork
  • Excellent for photos, logos and fine details
  • Gradients and complex colours are possible
  • No huge minimum order required
  • Great across many common clothing fabrics
Why we choose DTF

Your design should not have to change just because it is going on clothing.

Traditional decoration methods all have their place, but when customers come to us with colourful logos, photographs, detailed artwork or a one-off idea, DTF gives us much more creative freedom.

🌈

Full colour without counting colours

DTF can reproduce multi-colour designs, shading and gradients without needing a separate screen or vinyl layer for each individual colour.

📸

Perfect for photographs

Want a photo printed onto a T-shirt or hoodie? DTF is ideal for detailed photographic artwork and designs containing lots of tones.

🔍

Fine detail stays detailed

Small text, intricate logos and complicated artwork can be reproduced without having to cut and weed every tiny section individually.

1️⃣

One item is absolutely fine

You do not need to order dozens of garments just to make the setup worthwhile. DTF is particularly useful for personalised one-offs and smaller quantities.

👕

Works on lots of clothing

DTF works well on many common garment materials including cotton, polyester and blended fabrics, making it extremely versatile.

⚡

Fast custom production

With no screens to prepare and no complicated vinyl weeding for detailed artwork, DTF is ideal for quick personalised orders.

How the methods compare

DTF vs vinyl, embroidery and screen printing.

There is no single printing method that wins every job. Here is why we prefer DTF for the type of personalised clothing our customers usually order.

What matters? DTF Printing Vinyl / HTV Embroidery Screen Printing
Full-colour artwork Excellent Depends on vinyl type More limited Possible, but more setup
Photographs Excellent Possible with printable vinyl Not ideal Not usually the best choice
Fine detail Excellent Tiny details can be difficult to weed Depends on design & stitch size Good with suitable artwork
Gradients & shading Excellent Printable vinyl can do this Limited compared with print Possible, but less straightforward
One-off orders Excellent Excellent Possible, but setup may cost more Usually better for larger runs
Large bulk orders Good Depends on design Good for logos Excellent for simple high-volume designs
Special effects Standard full-colour finish Great for glitter, metallic, flock & more Premium stitched texture Special inks may be available
Where DTF really shines

Made for the sort of custom clothing people actually ask us for.

From birthday T-shirts and memorial clothing to colourful business logos, teamwear, stag and hen tops and photo hoodies, DTF gives us the flexibility to produce each design without forcing it into a simpler format.

Detailed business and club logos
Photographs and memorial images
Colourful birthday and celebration designs
Small quantities and individual personalised garments
Artwork with gradients, shading and lots of colours
Is DTF always better?

We use the right method for the job.

DTF is our preferred option for most full-colour personalised clothing, but other methods still have strengths.

Embroidery is brilliant when you specifically want a premium stitched finish, particularly for smaller logos and professional workwear. Vinyl can be ideal for names, numbers and specialist effects such as glitter or metallic finishes. Screen printing can be extremely effective and economical for very large quantities of simpler designs.

For the colourful, highly personalised, short-run work we produce every day, however, DTF gives us an excellent combination of detail, flexibility and speed.

DTF questions

A few things customers often ask us.

What does DTF actually mean?

DTF means Direct-to-Film. Your artwork is digitally printed onto a specialist film, prepared with adhesive and then heat pressed onto the garment.

Can DTF print photographs?

Yes. Photographs, detailed graphics, colourful artwork and gradients are exactly the type of designs DTF is particularly good at reproducing.

Can you print on dark clothing?

Yes. DTF uses a white base behind the printed colours, allowing bright artwork to stand out on both light and dark garments.

Do I need to order a minimum quantity?

No. One-off personalised garments are very welcome, although we can also produce larger quantities for businesses, clubs, teams and events.

Can I bring my own clothing?

Yes. Suitable garments can be brought into us for printing, but they must be brand new, unworn and unwashed. Previously worn or washed garments can affect how reliably the print bonds to the fabric.

Got a design that deserves more than one or two flat colours?

Upload your photo, logo or artwork and let us turn it into a vibrant full-colour garment using our DTF printing process.
